New Mortal Kombat Live Action Web Series Confirmed by Warner Bros.

Last year Kevin Tancharoen published a quite interesting unofficial fan short film which represented his interpretation of the Mortal Kombat universe. The nearly eight-minute trailer received almost 10 million views on You Tube becoming immensely popular. The reimagined world of MK featured Baraka, Reptile, Johnny Cage, Sonya, and Scorpion and is shown from the perspective of Jackson “Jax” Briggs (Spawn, Black Dynamite) who is proposing a deal to an unknown prisoner.

Now, Warner Bros reports that there’s going to be an official web series with Tanchaeron as director. Filming begins February in Vancouver and additional information will be revealed soon. Unfortunately for many, these releases won’t be free, as future episodes will be distributed “through online digital retailers from Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.” According to Warner Bros. the series will follow the story of some of the main characters like Scorpion, Johnny Cage and Liu Kang. Mortal Kombat (the game) will be released on 19 April so we should expect the first episode real soon.
