City of Heroes Goes Free-to-Play

The free-to-play model has proven to be extremely successful and most current MMORPGs are implementing it. Although at first, the model was quite popular among casual games, nowadays, many are the titles that allow players to play without paying. Unsurprisingly, the latest game to use this model is City of Heroes.

Originally developed by Cryptic Studios and published by NCsoft, the title has been one of the most popular MMOs of the past few years. City of Heroes launched in North America on April 27, 2004 and it has received 21 free major updates and even a direct sequel named City of Villains that was later on combined with its prequel. The latest update includes new zones, challenges, power sets, costumes, missions and rewards.

Players will be able to play the game for free until their characters reach level 50 with the option to buy new content. Additionally, there are the Premium and VIP subscriptions which provide much more content. Fortunately, for those people who have been paying for a subscription, they will automatically be Premium members and their accounts will keep all the special items that they have previously acquired.

VIP players on the other hand, will pay a monthly subscription that will provide access to the Going Rogue expansion; they will also get some additional servers and free Paragon Points. For more information about the game and the different subscriptions you can visit the City of Heroes official website.
