Gears of War 3 is officially complete, but the trilogy is far from being finished as Epic Games and Microsoft have detailed new downloadable content. According to GameSpot, the third-person action game will get at least four expansions next year and the first one may be arriving in November. The content of this DLC packs hasn’t been detailed yet, the rumor is that they’ll include new maps but we still don’t know how many or anything else about them.
For those players who want to buy the content separately each expansion will cost 3,600 Microsoft points ($45). In any way, users can purchase a “Season Pass” (which will be launching September 20) to preorder all the expansions for 2,400 Microsoft points ($30). Additionally, Season Pass owners will have the possibility of getting the “liquid metal weapon set.” Preordering DLC sounds really weird, especially as it is not the same as preordering a physical copy at a retailer that you may not be able to get later, but this probably makes sense to developers and publishers.
Gears of War 3 will be released on September 20, 2011 and it’ll be the last part of the trilogy. The game will feature four-player co-op, a new controllable mech suit, new Locust enemies will definitely appear as well as some new weapons. Four new playable characters will be introduced (all of them female) and some other characters taken from the comic book and from previous games in the series.
Furthermore, Gears of War 3 will be released in three different retail versions: Standard ($60), Limited ($80) and Epic ($150). The Epic Edition includes a Marcus Fenix statue, an exclusive weapon pack, an award box with a medal, a flag, some exclusive art designs and more.
