One of the most apt candidates to become the best-selling game of the year is finally out. Of course, I’m referring to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, one of the most anticipated games of the year. The first-person shooter launches today, November 8 on North America and PAL regions for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Wii.
According to GameSpot, the third installment in the Modern Warfare franchise is expected to sell at least 20 million units by the end of this year. When compared to its predecessors, we can see similar results as Modern Warfare 2 sold 22 million units and Black Ops 25.
In addition, Activision has created a new social service called Call of Duty: Elite. This platform offers free and paid content and the premium subscription seems really convenient for fans of the franchise because it offers all the content you need for only $50. Premium users will get all the downloadable content available for the game along with the possibility of participating in competitions that offer both virtual and real prizes. Furthermore, premium members can level up clans and receive more capacity for the video-capture function. The Elite membership is included for free in all the Hardened Edition copies of Modern Warfare 3.
Now that the game is officially out, I’ll quote some of my favorite reviews that I’ve read so far:
“Modern Warfare 3 sticks to its competitive, cooperative, and single-player guns and reminds you why the series is one of the best in the business.” Chris Watters – GameSpot
“Modern Warfare 3 feels split between the great excitement of its time-tested multiplayer and the feeling that this whole style of game has just gotten old.” Jeff Gerstmann – GiantBomb
“Like a pair of Converse shoes, classic COD concepts get better with age.” 1UP Staff – 1UP
