Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will definitely be released on Steam but in addition to that, Valve has also confirmed that the title will incorporate Steamworks, allowing PC players to play offline, auto-update, get achievements and more.
The news were probably indirectly referencing the fact that Battlefield 3 will not be available on Steam, as Electronic Arts has decided to release their game on other retailers and online services. According to the company, the military shooter won’t be released on the aforementioned digital distribution platform because of Steam’s “restrictive” terms of service. Furthermore and according to GameSpy, Minecraft will also not be released on Steam as Valve apparently limits how developers interact with their customers.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released on November 8 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. One of its most important features is the fact that the game will have dedicated server support for the PC version, something that Modern Warfare 2 lacked and many players complained about. Fortunately, its sequel won’t have that issue.
