Recently, Sony Online Entertainment has stated that Star Wars: Galaxies will be officially shut down on December 15, 2011. The MMORPG has received many new updates and additions, but unfortunately, its popularity has been steadily decreasing. Still, those players who want to have the experience of participating in a game that is set in the Star Wars universe will just have to wait a few months as the official release date of The Old Republic has been announced.
Electronic Arts confirmed that the upcoming title, which is being developed by Bio-Ware, will launch December 20 in North America and December 22 in Europe. Some subscription details were also provided and the basic model seems quite similar to other MMOs. The monthly fee will be $14,99, but for all those who want to play the game for longer periods of time there are some additional plans.
To avoid technical issues, EA will limit the number of retail and digital copies sold in order to prevent servers from collapsing. Furthermore, the game will also be sold through Origin, EA’s digital distribution platform.
