There have been many rumors about this happening and thankfully, it has finally been officially revealed that Capcom is in fact working on an upcoming HD version of Okami. This re-release will feature HD graphics, 16:9 display, trophies, 1080p and PlayStation Move support. For the uninitiated, the classic PlayStation 2 adventure game was developed by independent Japanese development studio Clover (Viewtiful Joe, Viewtiful Joe 2, God Hand) and soon became one of the most critically acclaimed titles of 2006.
The game will be made available digitally on the PlayStation Network for $20 and will be out this fall (in Japan the game will be released on November 1.) In North American and Europe the game will cost $19.99/£15.99/€19.99 in their respective territories which seems like a really appealing price, specially taking into account that Okami has been one of the best titles of its generation.
Additionally, the use of the Move controller to emulate the paint brushes seems like a really attractive idea that has the potential to make the game even more engaging. Let’s just hope that the Move implementation is intuitive, well executed and that the use of celestial paint brushes works as it’s supposed to. While everyone waits for the HD version of Okami to come out, I can feel extremely guilty about having a PlayStation 2 copy of this game sitting on my shelf. Finally, an announcement trailer has officially been released by Capcom (video embedded below.)
