The development of niche video games has become an inviting possibility for both developers and fanatics alike and it all has been made possible thanks to Kickstarter. We surely wouldn’t be seeing a lot of niche titles being announced if it wasn’t for the popular website. One of those popular projects was Shadowrun Returns, a cyberpunk role-playing game which will be set in the same universe as the original Shadowrun titles (for the SNES and SEGA Genesis.) The project was successfully funded a few months ago and that campaign was so well-received by fans that is has encouraged the development of a new game called Shadowrun Online.
The project is aiming to raise $500,000. Shadowrun Online will be a free-to-play browser MMO with Co-Op and PVP set in the Shadowrun universe. According to Kickstarter page, if the campaign becomes a success the game will be developed by Cliffhanger Productions. Additionally, the game will be powered by the Unity 3D game engine and will be accessible on iOS, Android, Windows and Mac with the possibility of receiving Linux support. Of course, the Kickstarter page features a really meticulous description of what the game is actually going to be, so if you’re looking for a more thorough look at the project you should visit the site.
