A short post on PlayXBLA is teasing an upcoming Killer Instinct project. Microsoft stated that they have renewed the trademark which would allow them to do another game in the fighting franchise. “We have either renewed or refiled a trademark application in various jurisdictions,” the post reads. Nevertheless, it remains unclear if this upcoming game will be an HD remake, a reboot or a port of the original.
The first Killer Instinct was released in 1994. Developed by Rare and published by Midway in the arcades, the fighting title was critically acclaimed back in the day, which allowed for an SNES and Game Boy ports, as well as a direct sequel that was launched in 1996. The latest installment was Killer Instinct Gold for the Nintendo 64 which included a downgraded version of Killer Instinct 2.
I remember playing Killer Instinct Gold a couple of years ago, though to be completely honest, I don’t have a very vivid recollection of what the game looked or played like. Hopefully, this upcoming project might be able to bring back some of those memories.
