Final Fantasy XIII will receive a new iteration and surprisingly enough it won’t be called Final Fantasy XIII-3. Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns will be the name of the upcoming title which was officially unveiled at the series’ 25th Anniversary event in Japan. Additionally, a video was shown during the presentation but unfortunately, it hasn’t been made available to the public yet.
People involved in the project promised that this will be the third and final game in the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy and that they won’t keep exploiting this portion of the franchise anymore. Lightning Returns will take place in a world called Novus Partus composed of four large islands. There, players will assume the role of Lightning as she tries to find a way to save the world from collapsing. The female character’s appearance can be fully customizable and while the combat system will remain the same (Paradigm Shift,) players will be able to move Lightning and change weapons in the battlefield.
Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns will be available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.
