Limited editions probably represent one of the most annoying trends in the video game industry. While in some cases the release of special editions makes a lot of sense, certain collector’s editions are totally stupid (Halo 3, I blame you for starting that trend) or even prohibitively expensive. As a consequence, publishers need to include something that fans actually like and make the collection available at a reasonable price. At a recent event, Konami announced that both Metal Gear Rising and Zone of the Enders will receive limited editions.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance’s premium bundle for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will have a copy of the game (so far so good,) the soundtrack, a two-sided steelbook and a plasma lamp. This limited edition will be available at launch on February 19th.
Additionally, the Zone of the Enders HD Collection is also receiving a collector’s edition. In this case, the premium bundle will come out on October 30th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and it will include a copy of the game in metal packaging, a soundtrack and a 100-page art book. It’s worth noting that the limited edition of Zone of the Enders HD Collection will also have the Metal Gear Rising demo. As of this writing Konami hasn’t revealed the price for either bundle.
