999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors is a critically acclaimed visual novel that came out for the Nintendo DS in 2009. Why was the adventure game so well received? Its story is surprisingly well written, its presentation is top-notch and its gameplay is quite addictive. Unfortunately, a lot of people missed the game when it came out (myself included,) but since a spiritual successor called Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward is about to be released in North America, I assume that a lot of fans of the genre will go back and play 999.
As a way of promoting the Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward, publisher Aksys has released a 12-minute video that serves as the visual novel’s introduction. It’s worth noting that Studio Gonzo (the anime studio behind Gate Keepers, Final Fantasy Unlimited, Samurai 7, Afro Samurai and Blue Submarine No. 6, among many other TV series, films and games) was in charge of this sequence. Find the English version of the OVA on top.
Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward comes out on October 23rd for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita in North America. Europe, on the other hand, will get the game this November.
