Phantasy Star Complete Collection Becomes PS2 Classic in Japan

Phantasy Star 2 (PS2)

Phantasy Star Collection is the name of two different compilations that came out on a variety of systems. The first, which featured the first four games in the series, was released on the Sega Saturn and later on ported to the PlayStation 2. The second, which featured the first three games, was released four years later on the Game Boy Advance. Now, the PlayStation 2 version of the collection, titled Phantasy Star Complete Collection, is available on the Japanese PlayStation Store for just 800 yen ($10).

Phantasy Star Complete Collection features the following titles:

  • Phantasy Star
  • Phantasy Star II
  • Phantasy Star II: Successor of Time
  • Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
  • Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium
  • Phantasy Star Text Adventure
  • Phantasy Star Adventure
  • Phantasy Star Gaiden

Taking into account that the original disc is pretty hard to get, this cheap digital download seems like the best way to get a copy of the compilation. If you would like to play these games in English, you can try the GBA version, though it’s pretty expensive. Thankfully, there are cheaper options, such as the Sega Genesis Collection or Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection which include Phantasy Star II, Phantasy Star II: Successor of Time and Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom, among many other classic titles.
