As most fans of the series probably know, an official Castlevania movie isn’t likely to come out anytime soon, but thankfully, this fan-made project (titled Castlevania: Hymn of Blood) attempts to fill that void.
For the uninitiated, Hymn of Blood is an alternative story that focuses on Simon Belmont’s origins. While the original story was really basic (a whip-wielding man named Simon goes to Dracula’s castle to slay the evil count,) subsequent entries added depth to the protagonist. Still, it’s worth pointing out that Hymn of Blood explores the storyline of the main series, therefore, some of the events from manuals, books and spinoffs are ignored.
I must admit that I’ve never been a huge fan of the Castlevania series, but then again, I haven’t played Symphony of the Night yet. Fortunately, I keep my priorities in check and the PlayStation Portable version Castlevania: Rhondo of Blood (which happens to include Symphony of the Night) is one of the titles that I’ll be playing soon. In the meantime, I’ll be posting an episode of Hymn of Blood once a week.
