EA Will Be in Charge of Star Wars Games From Now On

Star Wars - The Old Republic

Electronic Arts (also known as the Worst Company in America) and The Walt Disney Company announced a multi-year exclusive agreement to publish and develop Star Wars games. According to this deal, EA will develop and publish Star Wars games for the “core gaming audience” and Disney will keep the rights to all social, online, mobile and tablet titles.

Additionally, EA announced that Bioware (Knights of the Old Republic,) DICE (Mirror’s Edge) and Visceral (Dead Space) will be the studios in charge of Star Wars games. Of course, the Bioware studio has some experience working with the Star Wars franchise, but we’ll see what the talented members of the two other studios come up with.

Personally, I wasn’t expecting this sort of announcement so soon. After all, it was only a month ago that Disney announced that they were closing LucasArts and that they were canceling Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault. As of this writing, EA hasn’t said if it’s going to do anything at all with those two titles.
