Nintendo Direct Recap: NES Remix, Dr. Luigi, Mario Kart 8

Yesterday, Nintendo held the last Nintendo Direct presentation of 2014. The livestream focused on both 3DS and Wii U titles that are going to launch soon, including a few surprises that weren’t on anyone’s radar. As usual, I decided to compile all announcements on a list.

  • Hyrule Warriors (the name’s not final according to Nintendo,) is a collaboration between Tecmo Koei and Nintendo. As the name implies, this will be a combination of The Legend of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors series. The game will be available in 2014.
  • Kirby: Triple Deluxe is a side-scrolling action game for the Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo showed the new Hyper Nova ability and two new modes: Kirby Fighter and Dedede’s Drum Dash. The former mode is similar to Super Smash Bros. in the sense that you can compete with up to four players in battle arenas and the latter is a rhythm minigame. The game will be available in 2014.
  • Yoshi’s New Island will launch in spring 2014 for the Nintendo 3DS.
  • Chibi Robo: Photo Finder is coming to the 3DS eShop.
  • The Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter applications for the 3DS will be available on December 27th. Also, if you use the Pokémon Bank before September 30th, 2014, you’ll receive a free Celebi.
  • Bravely Default for the 3DS launches on February 7th, 2014. A side story that will serve as a demo will be out on January 2nd.
  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze has a new character called Cranky Kong and a new ability (when you collect 100 bananas, the game transforms enemies into items.) The Wii U game will be released in February 2014.
  • Sonic: Lost World for the Wii U will receive two pieces of DLC. The first is called Yoshi’s Island Zone and is available for free.
  • Golf has been added to the Wii Sports Club which is available now.
  • NES Remix is a new downloadable game for the Wii U that features famous scenes from NES games but with some small changes. The game can be downloaded now.
  • Nintendo announced Dr. Luigi for the Wii U. The game, which will be released on December 31st and features L-shaped capsules.
  • Finally, Mario Kart 8 will have Rosalina as a new character.
