If you’re a fan of indie games, the PlayStation 4 will be one of your favorite platforms. Sony announced that Drifter, Jamestown Plus, Nidhogg, Spenlunky, Axiom Verge, Starwhal: Just the Tip, Apotheon, Skulls of the Shogun: Bone-A-Fide Edition, Chasm, Escape Goat 2 and Ironclad Tactics are all coming to the PlayStation 4 really soon.
Below, you’ll find all the indie games that Sony announced during the past few days. For each game, I included a brief description with a release date, features that will be new to the PlayStation 4 version and a trailer.
Space exploration game Drifter is coming to both the PlayStation 4 and Vita. Drifter is an open-world, space trading game with a procedurally generated galaxy where you assume the role of a captain who can trade goods, hunt pirates, mine asteroids or even become a space pirate.
The developers over at Final Form Games are calling Jamestown Plus is the definitive version of Jamestown. Jamestown Plus, which is coming to the PlayStation 4 this summer, features the original adventure, but also comes with new content, including new ships, new levels and a new chapter of the Jamestown story.
Sidescrolling competitive fencing game Nidhogg is bringing the game to the PlayStation 4. Players will now be able to compete in front of their TV with friends using traditional controllers instead of sharing a keyboard. By the way, Twitch TV integration is coming to this version of the game.
One of the most popular roguelikes around is coming to the PlayStation 4. This version of the game features 1080p visuals, the possibility of uploading replays to the leaderboards and more social features.
Axiom Verge is a 2D side-scrolling action adventure that follows the classic metroidvania formula (its developers compare their game to Rygar, Contra, Bionic Commando and Blaster Master.) The game’s coming to both the PlayStation 4 and Vita in Early 2015.
Starwhal: Just the Tip
In Starwhal: Just the Tip, players navigate their narwhal to tag their opponents heart while protecting their own. The premise sounds simple and enough and that’s what makes Starwhal such an interesting game.
Apotheon is an action sidescroller that uses ancient Greek imagery. In the game, players will be able to use popular mechanics such as jumping, rolling, evading, attacking and blocking.
Skulls of the Shogun: Bone-A-Fide Edition
17-BIT’s Skulls of the Shogun is a fast-paced, turn-based strategy game. The Bone-A-Fide Edition comes with the 10-hour campaign, a new single-player episode, a new character called the Tanuki Monk and new multiplayer maps.
Charm is a procedurally generated role-playing game where you take up the role of young soldier Daltyn as he investigates the disappearance of a mining crew. RPG platformer Chasm is coming to the PlayStation 4 later this year.
Escape Goat 2
Magical Time Bean’s Escape Goat 2 is a puzzle platformer where you control a goat. What’s not to like?
Unlike most games based on the American Civil War, Ironclad Tactics is a fast-paced, card-based strategy game. Here are some ideas about the game that caught my attention: you never have to pay for individual cards, turns are really short and there are multiplayer modes.
Chariot is a two-dimensional, couch cooperative platformer where players work together to guide a chariot to the end of the level. Core mechanics include pushing, reeling, riding and pulling.
