Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, which is usually regarded as one of the best Japanese role-playing game ever made, is now available on iOS and Android devices for $19.99, publisher Square Enix has announced. The JRPG came out in the New Zealand App Store a few days ago, so if you were one of the players who was expecting a worldwide release, you’re in luck.
Originally released for the PlayStation 2 in 2005, Dragon Quest VIII was praised at the time for its pristine three-dimensional world, simple gameplay, terrific character design, a great orchestral soundtrack and solid English localization.
Nevertheless, the recently released mobile port features some changes to make the experience as portable and mobile-friendly as possible. The most meaningful additions include touch controls and a customizable touch interface. At the same time, some concessions needed to be made in order to port the game to mobile devices, including the lack of voice acting and no high-definition visuals. Still, if you want to play Dragon Quest VIII on the go, this port is a good option.
