According to Analysts Modern Warfare 3 Could Sell More than 20 Million Units

As most of you probably know, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released on November 8, 2011. The game is being developed by Sledgehammer Games/Infinity Ward and this iteration is already expected to be a massive success, especially as its predecessor, Call of Duty Black Ops, was the best-selling game not only in the United States but also in the United Kingdom.

According to Wedbush Securities’ research analyst Michael Pachter, Modern Warfare 3 could surpass sales of 20 million units even though it’s competing against EA’s Battlefield 3. It should be taken into account that up to date, Black Ops has sold a combined total of 13 million units in the United States alone and sold a combined total of 5.6 million units in the US and UK markets within 24 hours of its release, making it the fastest selling video game in history also.

Pachter thinks this number could easily be surpassed by Black Ops’ successor, as the game has become extremely popular and there’s an active community of millions of players waiting to buy the game.

“While we think that Activision’s 2011 Call of Duty sales have the potential to eclipse last year’s mind-boggling 20 million units, due primarily to the network effect created by the game’s remarkable 17 million weekly active unique online players, we think that the company’s shares may come under pressure when EA’s game is launched, particularly if Battlefield 3 receives a 90+ Metacritic score,” the analyst said.

Even though a much respected analyst like Patcher has predicted that MW3 could sell many more units than its predecessor, it’s actually a really good guess and it definitely has the potential to be the best selling game in history.
