As most of you probably know, Halo 4 represents the beginning of a new trilogy in the saga. Although the original trilogy was developed by Bungie, the next three games will be developed by 343 Industries. Unfortunately, one of the game’s main developers has already left the project. According to a report on Kotaku, Halo 4 creative director Ryan Payton has left 343 Industries in order to start a new studio, which will be called Camouflaj.
“I had a great run at Microsoft,” Payton told the website. “I don’t regret one day of it. But after a few years, there came a point where I wasn’t creatively excited about the project anymore.” The developer added “The Halo I wanted to build was fundamentally different and I don’t think I had built enough credibility to see such a crazy endeavor through.”
For the past few months Payton has been having some personal problems. The developer has been suffering from depression but he still kept working hard on the Halo 4 project, as he focused on the game’s story and its universe. Payton had previously worked on Metal Gear Solid 4 and was an assistant producer for the title, but later on left Kojima Productions to start working on Halo.
Regarding his new company, Camouflaj, he has two new projects which he hasn’t explicitly talked about. As a conclusion to this article I would like to share some of Payton’s words which may be related to the aforementioned projects: “Some people say I’m crazy, but I want to make a game that one billion people play at once, and it’s something that hits them harder than a great book or film.“
