Street Fighter X Tekken On-Disc DLC Debacle Keeps Getting Worse

All those people who are informed about game-related news know that there have been some issues with the on-disc DLC implementation in Street Fighter X Tekken. For those who don’t know, Capcom included all the planned DLC in the game, however, those who want full access to that specific portion of the game need to wait until the company unlocks it. Then, players will be required to pay an additional fee for that content. Needless to say, most players are really angry at Capcom for doing this.

The DLC features 12 characters (list provided at the end of this article) that will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game later this year. These characters will debut exclusively on the PlayStation Vita (set for a fall release) and the consoles and PC versions will be available later. Still, the Japanese developer/publisher officially stated that they included the character information and files intentionally as this saves hard drive space. Although many may disagree, this statement is actually true.

There are many players who have slow internet connections and thanks to this, will still have access to the content anyway as they will only be unlocking it directly from the disc. Another reason provided for Capcom to include the DLC on the disc is that they won’t have to release a subsequent updated version that features all the new characters (that was the case of Super Street Fighter IV.)  I understand that many don’t like the idea of paying for a “key” to unlock content that is in the disc, but the game itself isn’t necessarily incomplete without those characters.

Additionally, there have been bigger issues related to the game. Apparently, some players were able to hack the Xbox 360 version of Street Fighter X Tekken and have access to all the locked characters, giving them a really unfair advantage against other honest users. Capcom has acknowledged this by stating that they are working with Microsoft in order to ban those players who are using hacked 360’s. Unfortunately, legitimate players have a huge disadvantage against those who use the unreleased characters.

A few hours ago, a new Tournament Patch has been released (which among other things fixes the sound lag issues and allows players to customize gems at the character select screen,) but Capcom didn’t confirm if it solved the hack problems. Hopefully, a proper response regarding this issue will be provided soon.

Finally, here’s the list of character which will be available as DLC:

  • Street Fighter: Blanka, Cody, Dudley, Elena, Guy and Sakura.
  • Tekken: Alisa Bosconovitch, Bryan Fury, Christie Monteiro, Jack, Lars Alexandersson and Lei Wulong
