XBLA Version of Penny Arcade Adventures 3 Delayed

The first two Penny Arcade Adventures games are among some of the most refreshingly unique downloadable titles of the past few years, mainly because they definitely retain the humor of the web comic series they are based on. Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode 1 originally came out on May 21, 2008 and Episode 2 on October 29, 2008, but for multiple reasons the development of the third episode has been cancelled and then postponed a couple of times.

One of the main reasons was the fact that the third episode is being developed by Zeboyd Games (Cthulhu Saves the World,) instead of Hothead Games (The Maw, DeathSpank, Swarm, The Baconing and Penny Arcade Adventures 1 and 2.) Now, four years later, the third iteration in the popular series of downloadable titles is about to come out, but 360 fans should wait a little longer as the XBLIG version of the episode has been delayed.

Due to a bug in which the game crashes when a memory unit is removed while saving (which let me tell you is never a good idea,) the game has been resubmitted to Xbox Live Indie Games and is waiting for approval. Penny Arcade Adventures will be available on iOS, Android (this is the first episode to debut on mobile platforms,) PC, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. The PC version of the title on the other hand, will still come out on June 25, 2012. The mobile versions are planned, but a specific release date hasn’t been provided yet.

Unlike previous episodes, Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode 3 has a quite distinctive art style, very reminiscent of SNES role-playing games. The graphics are all pixelated and the combat has been compared to early 16-bit Final Fantasy games (particularly Final Fantasy VI) as the main protagonists are positioned on the right side of the screen and the monsters on the left side. Finally, for more information about the reasons behind the XBLIG version not coming out as expected, there is a post on Penny Arcade that makes reference to this.
