I tried playing Infinity Engine games as a teenager, but I simply couldn’t keep them installed for more than a few days. Not because I didn’t want to play them, but because something always happened. Maybe I had to replace the hard drive, I got a new computer or Windows failed on me and I lost all my installed data. Although a lot of CRPG fans have their own reasons for not playing the game, we should all be happy to know that the upcoming remake, called Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, has a release date on the PC.
The new version of the Bioware classic is coming to PC, Mac and iPad. The game is coming on September 18 for the PC, but the Mac and iPad versions are coming on September. It’s worth noting that an Android version will also come out at some point in the near future, but its release date remains as TBA. While the PC and Mac will cost $19.99, the iOS version will be available for $9.99. Nevertheless, new characters will be sold as DLC on the iPad.
In addition, the developer has revealed some details regarding characters and a new adventure. The new characters include half-elf mage Neera, young Monk Rasaad yn Bashir and half-orc Dorn II-Kahn. On the other hand, the Enhanced Edition features a new dungeon called “The Black Pits” which allows players to participate in a really violent competition. This new version also includes over 400 improvements that I’m definitely not going to copy and paste here, just know that some of these inclusions have been taken from Baldur’s Gate 2 (such as using “class kits, new subraces and classes that were previously unavailable,”) and others represent a way of modernizing the classic (multiplayer mode and better user interface.) Finally, the official website is accepting pre-orders right now.
