Interplay Bringing Back Black Isle Studios

Black Isle Studios has been defunct since 2003, but a teaser website indicates that the legendary division behind critically-acclaimed role-playing games such as Planescape: Torment, Fallout, Fallout 2, Baldur’s Gate, Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Icewind Dale is returning.

Unfortunately, the website doesn’t include many details. “Our goal has always been to make the world’s best RPGs. Black Isle Studios is back” reads the site. Additionally, the teaser features a Black Isle Studios logo, along with the option to subscribe to a newsletter and share the announcement on Twitter and Facebook.

Since this announcement took place, multiple designers who used to work for Black Isle Studios (such as Fallout: New Vegas senior designer Chris Avellone, who also worked on Fallout 2 back in the day) stated that they didn’t know anything about its resurrection.

Taking into account that most of the people who worked for Black Isle are currently in other companies (like Chris Avellone or members of InXile, the studio that’s developing Wasteland 2,) will the resurrected Black Isle Studio be able to make another great RPG? I guess only time will tell. In the meantime, feel free to share your opinion in the comments below.
