Fans have been waiting a long time for Retro City Rampage to come out, but it seems like the game is going to be released really soon. The developer has confirmed that the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PC versions of the game are coming out on October 9th, 2012 in North America. That’s like next week.
Retro City Rampage will be available for $14.99 and PlayStation users can buy one copy of the game and get it on both PS3 and Vita. The PC version, on the other hand, will be available for the same price on Steam, GOG and the game’s official website. Those who buy the game on the latter will get a DRM-free copy, as well as either a Steam or GOG key. According to the developers, the game will be available on Europe later this month. The WiiWare and XBLA versions will be available later this year.
To the uninitiated, Retro City Rampage is an open-world game in which the main protagonist can steal vehicles, attack pedestrians, outrun the law and play some bonus games. In other words, Retro City Rampage seems like an 8-Bit Grand Theft Auto with a really good sense of humor. The overall tone of the game is very tongue-in-cheek and it parodies many popular video games (including Super Mario, Contra, Metal Gear, Grand Theft Auto and Bionic Commando) films (such as Back to the Future) and pop culture in general.
