Not a lot of companies have released PlayStation One imports on the PlayStation Network, but the relatively new publisher GungHo Online Entertainment America has already taken the plunge. GungHo has released six old-school Japanese titles, some of which are extremely bizarre.
The six “cult classics” include shoot ’em up compilation Zanac X Zanac (which features three different versions of the original Zanac and Zanac NEO,) 2D fighter Makeruna Makendo 2, vehicular combat title Vehicle Cavalier, colorful match-three puzzle/platformer Lup★Salad, Art Camion Sugorokuden (which seems like a board game about trucks) and rock-paper-scissors (is that even a genre?) Finger★Flashing.
All six PSOne imports are already available on the PlayStation Network for $5.99 each. It’s worth noting that while all of them are in Japanese, some of these experiences translate better than others. For instance, you don’t need to know Japanese to understand how moving blocks in Lup★Salad works. Therefore, make sure you read the announcement post on the PlayStation Blog to make sure you’re getting a title that you’ll be able to understand.
