Mojang said that it will consider porting the sandbox indie game to PlayStation platforms. And who can blame them? Selling over 5 million copies, the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft represents one of the biggest releases on Xbox Live. The console exclusivity deal that Mojang has with Microsoft is about to end, which means that soon enough, the Swedish developer will be free to work on ports for other platforms.
In an interview with iGamer (via Edge,) Mojang’s Jens Bergensten, lead designer on Minecraft, stated that when the deal ends, they will “consider” releasing Minecraft for PlayStation. Although most people are probably thinking of a PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 release, I believe that a PlayStation Vita version would be the best fit. Another possibility would be releasing the game as a Cross-Buy title which could be playable on both the PS3 and Vita.
A Wii U version of Minecraft, on the other hand, “is very unlikely,” according to Bergensten.
