Canadian-based indie game studio Combit has announced that it’s working with River City Ransom EX developer to create a sequel to River City Ransom. According to the announcement, the follow-up will be available for Windows in August 2014.
Although the sequel (which will not be called River City Ransom 2) is currently in development, Combit will also launch a crowd-funding campaign to support the game. It’s also worth mentioning that while the game has been confirmed for PC, additional platforms are under consideration.
In North America, River City Ransom was originally released in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Developed by Technos Japan, the beat ’em up quickly became a cult classic outside of Japan, inspiring multiple spin-offs. One of those spin-offs was Crash ‘n the Boys: Street Challenge, a quirky sports game that didn’t have traditional rules or regulations.
Combit will launch the crowd-funding campaign sometime this summer, so look forward to it. If you can’t wait that long or if you’re afraid that you might forget, the official website will add your email address to its mailing list.
