The PlayStation Store added an “Indie Games” category this past Tuesday as part of the service’s latest update. As its name indicates, this virtual section tries to highlight some of the latest indie titles on PlayStation platforms. The Unfinished Swan, Journey, Guacamelee! and Thomas Was Alone are some of the games that are already available in this category.
As a way of promoting this category, Sony’s offering some deals and discounts. More promotions and free titles will be announced on a weekly basis.
- Retro City Rampage: 50% off from May 7th to May 21st.
- Papo & Yo Promotional Bundle: 40% off from May 7th to May 21st (the promotional bundle features Papo & Yo and its soundtrack.)
- Zombie Tycoon II: Free for PlayStation Plus members.
Sony is really trying to show that the PlayStation family of consoles is indie-friendly. Surprisingly, a significant part of the video presentation where the PlayStation 4 was announced focused on independent games. Additionally, part of what makes the PlayStation Vita so appealing is the fact that it has some of the best indie games from this generation (Guacamelee!, Thomas Was Alone, Lone Survivor, Retro City Rampage and Terraria, among many, many others.) Hopefully, this trend will continue for years to come.
