The first press conference of day zero is now officially over. In this post, I’ll be writing about pretty much every single title announced as part of the presentation. Without further ado, these are all the details that were confirmed during the Xbox Global Media Briefing.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
From Konami/Kojima Productions and running on the Fox Engine, a new trailer from MGS V was shown. The trailer is set in Afghanistan and among other things, new (and a few old) characters made an appearance, including Kazuhira, Quiet, Eli, Skull Face, Emmerich, Ocelot, Code Talker and Punished Snake.
New features were confirmed, such as real-time weather, a new type of stealth, an open-world gameplay and a remade CQC system.
Don Mattrick appeared on stage with Hideo Kojima.
Yusuf Mehdi stated that the existing Xbox 360 hardware will be update. Well, in fact, this redesigned hardware is available now!
The Xbox Live service will carry over from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One. Although Xbox Live Gold members will probably have to keep paying for the premium service, two free titles will be available once per month (like in PlayStation Plus.) This month both Assassin’s Creed II and Halo 3 will be available for free as part of this new new feature.
World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition
World of Tanks is coming to the Xbox 360. The game will be available for free sometime this summer.
Max: The Curse of Brotherhood
This stylish puzzle/platformer is coming soon to the Xbox 360.
Dark Souls II
From Software’s punishing RPG is also coming to the Xbox 360.
Xbox One Games
Ryse: Son of Rome
Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Studios, presented Ryse: Son of Rome. This is a new action game set in Rome in which you control a Roman general and his army. A live demo was shown where the leader killed some enemy soldiers using quick time events and then the leader and his army got into a castle and destroyed the main tower using a nearby catapult.
The game uses the latest version of the Crytek engine and will be available exclusively for Xbox One at launch.
Killer Instinct is coming to the Xbox One.
This is Insomniac’s later title. Ted Price presented this upcoming open-world shooter. The CGI trailer showed a group of youngsters fighting monsters. It’s hard to tell what this game is going to be from the trailer, but it has a great sense of style.
Forza Motorsport 5
Don Greenwalt presented the latest iteration in the Forza Motorsport series with a cameo appearance of the McLaren P1 (apparently, there are only two of these cars in the world and since one of those had nothing to do this week, the car came to E3.) A new feature was confirmed: the driveatar.
The driveatar is an sort of artificial intelligence that studies how you race and tries to emulate that style when you can’t play. So when you sleep, go to work or go to school, other players will be able to play against your driveatar.
A short new trailer was shown.
Phil Harrison took the stage to talk about indie games.
Minecraft: Xbox One Edition
Minecraft is coming to the Xbox One. That pretty much sums it up!
Sam Lake from remedy presented the upcoming game Quantum Break. A new trailer was shown and looked absolutely stunning. The visuals were incredible and the details in the characters’ faces was unbelievable.
Suda 51 is working on an episodic murder mystery called D4. That’s the only thing we know so far.
Dave McCarthy presented this sandbox game which has tools that allows players to create the environments where they are going to be playing later on. Basically, you choose a setting from a template and modify that template in the way you please (you choose a desert, then the time of the day, then the texture and so on and so forth.) Additionally, you can use smartglass to add details, such as bridges or stones. Once the setting is created, you can put a village in there, create a pet and fight some enemies. Everything about this title sounds both promising and overly ambitious, so for the moment, I’m cautiously optimistic.
The Time Line
A new smartglass feature was shown: a time line. Each game you play will have its own time line that shows you (and your friends) how much progress you’ve made in a specific game. The time line will progress in real time.
Play a fighting game and once you’re over, you can upload all that footage for others to watch. You can do some basic editing, before you share it with others.
Microsoft has partnered with Twitch and some titles will allow you do livestreaming.
Microsoft Points are a thing of the past. A relic that will soon be forgotten. Microsoft points will be replaced by your local currency. Couldn’t be happier.
More Xbox One Games
This appeared to be a new entry in the Panzer Dragoon saga, but since the sound went out during the trailer, I assume I’m right. By the way, I started making “pew pew” sounds to make the trailer more realistic, but it didn’t work out.
Dead Rising 3
An upcoming open-world zombie game that looks very promising. In the game, you’ll assume the role of a man called Rick Ramos who lives in the city of Los Perdidos (Spanish for “the lost ones”) and you’ll fight zombies using everything you can. The weapon-crafting system was shown during the gameplay demo. Smartglass can be used to call artillery support.
Dead Rising 3 is coming exclusively to the Xbox One this Holiday season.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to the Xbox One. The game will use Direct 11 graphics, an open-world setting, there will be Kinect and smartglass support and overall, there will be more than 100 hours of gameplay. Gameplay was shown.
Battlefield 4: Second Assault
Is coming first to Xbox One. The Frostbite 3 title is coming first to Xbox One at 60 frames per second. Rumor has it, you can shoot bad people, but there will be no dogs. Pass.
The presentation was delayed and some people started shouting at the guy on stage. The presentation totally started… eventually.
Black Tusk Studios New Game
I have no idea what this is. A video was shown.
A new Halo game was shown. Is this game going to be called just “Halo”? Apparently. This new Halo game is coming sometime in 2014. 343 Industries is developing it as we speak… read each other… interact.
Vince Zampella presented the latest title from Respawn Entertainment: Titanfall. The futuristic first-person shooter will allow you to use mechs and jetpacks. The game is coming exclusively on the Xbox One and is coming in Sping 2014
Xbox One Release Date
Finally! The Xbox One console is coming this November and it’ll cost $499, €499 or £ 499.
