Released in 1989 for arcade hardware, Strider is a sidescrolling platformer deeply respected for its innovative gameplay, slick controls, unique music and colorful visuals. Now over two decades after the release of the original, a new entry in the Strider series has been confirmed. Capcom announced at San Diego Comic Con that developer Double Helix (Silent Hill Homecoming, Front Mission Evolved) is working on a new Strider.
This new entry in the series (simply called Strider) is a fast-paced 2.5D sidescrolling platformer with Metroidvania elements. In terms of story, this is what we know so far: “The year is Meio: 048, and Hiryu, a young but deadly assassination expert is out to eliminate Grand Master Meio.”
Strider is coming to the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows (via Steam) in early 2014. Soon after announcing Strider (find the announcement trailer above,) Capcom released a video with seven minutes of gameplay footage. Watch that video below.
