An high-definition, online-capable version of Soulcalibur II is coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, Namco Bandai has announced during a panel at San Diego Comic Con. Appropriately titled Soulcalibur II HD Online, this is a re-release of the classic fighting game that came out on the PlayStation 2, GameCube and original Xbox.
It’s worth mentioning that this upcoming remake seems to be based on the PlayStation 2 version of the game and it’ll include Heihachi as a playable character. For the uninitiated, Soul Calibur II (because back in my day we wrote words properly) was one of the first fighting games to feature guest characters. Arguably, Soul Calibur II was the best one, since it included Tekken’s Heihachi, The Legend of Zelda’s Link and Todd McFarlane’s Spawn for the PS2, GameCube and Xbox respectively.
As of this news article, it hasn’t been confirmed if there will be additional characters. Maybe Namco Bandai can secure the rights for Spawn, but I’m pretty sure we won’t be seeing Link on this remake.
Soulcalibur II HD Online is coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 this fall.
