Keiji Inefune, also known as the co-creator of Mega Man, has just launched a Kickstarter campaign for a 2.5D side-scrolling platformer.
The game is called Mighty No. 9 and developer Comcept wants $900,000 for the project. As of this news article, more than 14,000 backers have contributed over $850,000, so it’s only a matter of minutes before Mighty No. 9 is fully funded.
The team is hoping to bring the game to Steam and DRM-free stores in early 2015. If stretch goals are reached, Mighty No. 9 will come to Mac, Linux and home consoles (Xbox 360, Wii U and PlayStation 3.)
According to the description on Kickstarter, Mighty No. 9 “takes the best aspects of the 8- and 16-bit era classics you know and love, and transforms them with modern tech, fresh mechanics, and fan input into something fresh and amazing!” In the game, players will assume the role of Beck who steals different powers from enemies and has the ability to transform once he has defeated bosses. It sounds and looks like Mega Man, but that’s fine by me.
