I think I’ve already mentioned this at some point, but while sometimes it’s hard to see the reason behind speedruns, there’s a certain art involved in beating a game in a few minutes. The latest world record involves Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, one of the most intricate and labyrinthine games ever made.
I recently played Symphony of the Night on the PlayStation Portable (I played the version that came in The Dracula X Chronicles compilation) and it took me a handful of hours to beat it. Speedrunner romscout completed the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game in 18 minutes and 20 seconds, which represents a new world record.
Note that the speedrunner completed both castles (regular and inverted) by any means necessary, so using glitches, item duplication and back-dashing were allowed.
