Without a doubt, AAA horror games are a dying breed. After most big franchises started switching from horror to action (Resident Evil and Silent Hill are two clear examples,) the horror genre found a home in the indie community where titles such as Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Daylight and Slender: The Arrival captured the attention of thousands of players who were interested in playing more traditional horror stories.
But Shinji Mikami and Tango Gameworks’ The Evil Within is a AAA title that tries to take the genre back to its roots. Above, you’ll find an extended gameplay video that Bethesda released a few weeks ago. In terms of survival-horror, it doesn’t get better than this.
The Evil Within is expected to come out on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC in 2014.
