Ubisoft Bringing Tetris to Next-Gen Consoles

Tetris Logo (Custom)

Tetris is probably one of the most ported video games in history, yet the tile-matching puzzler is so well designed and programmed that reinventing it is almost impossible. As a way of celebrating the game’s 30th anniversary, Ubisoft announced that it’s planning to publish Tetris on next-gen consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Which leads to my next question: how do you make Tetris a next generation title? Whatever you end up doing, don’t change the music…

Originally released in 1994, not only is Tetris one of the most recognizable video games ever made, it’s also one of the best. Since its release, Tetris has appeared on pretty much every device that has a screen, including the N-Gage, TRS-80 CoCo, BBC Micro, Sharp X68000, FM-7 and every cellphone ever made.

Over the years there have been numerous variants that changed the Tetris formula, including games with online competitive multiplayer modes, three-dimensional puzzles and new tetrominos.
